“Ashley offered a solution when five builders couldn’t”
HUMAN were employed to design and build a new entrance to this property. It is unusual for us to undertake such a small project however after listening to the clients’ problems we understood its significance and capabilities to change the occupants’ enjoyment of their home. The owners had previously approached several builders, none of whom offered a suitable solution for the access, storage, drainage or damp issues that they were facing. The owners had lost hope, they abandoned the front entrance rendering it out of bounds and instead favoured access through the back door via the garden.
As with the majority of projects HUMAN take on, this project started with a problem.
HUMAN demolished the old to make way for a new welcoming, friendly entrance that is functional, elegant and well built. For a very small project, this front porch extension packs a punch, working very hard to offer a variety of positive effects for the clients, whilst also meeting very strict local planning legislation and building regulations.
HUMAN undertook detailed consultation with the local authority in order to ensure that the client got what they wanted.

Through a series of Client-Architect workshops, we developed a design that is simple, elegant and robustly detailed. Materials are tactile, warm and subtle. Functionality offers a level threshold for future proofing, a wider entrance for ease of use, and storage for coats, shoes and all the stuff that comes with having small grandchildren. As well as offering a focal point to the front elevation, the new design links the new with the old, both internally and externally. It transforms the ugly and unwanted elements of the existing building and builds upon the good design qualities that the property had. The result is an elegant addition that completes this home.
The front entrance to your home is often overlooked, however the front step welcomes you home every evening, waves your children off to school and greets your friends and family. What first impression does your home give and how would you improve it?
